Innovation that Generates Real Value
Among START4.0’s most strategic activities is the provision of non-repayable grants for industrial research and experimental development projects, implemented through two rounds of calls for proposals using MIMIT and PNRR funds. To date, 35 innovative projects have been funded, selected for their ability to address the real needs of the production system and their high level of technological maturity. These solutions employ advanced technologies—such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, IoT, big data analytics, cybersecurity technologies, and OT/IT security—in sectors key to national competitiveness. The projects cover areas with high economic and strategic impact: energy, intelligent transportation, port logistics, sustainable construction, manufacturing, risk management, and critical infrastructure.
With the funding available, START4.0 has supported proposals capable of generating concrete benefits for businesses, value for local communities, and investment for the entire innovation ecosystem. Among the winning proposals, many benefited from strong collaboration between companies, universities, and research centers.

START4.0 is available to companies for the activation of innovative and qualifying services such as technical audits (Assessment), Test Before Invest and technology transfer, training, process or product innovation consulting, access to financing, intellectual property protection, networking, and awareness-raising.
