START4.0 is taking part in the INAIL conference dedicated to immersive technologies for workplace safety, contributing its expertise on the use of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) in training and risk prevention programs.
The presence of START4.0 at the INAIL conference on immersive technologies for workplace safety represents an important opportunity for dialogue among institutions, companies, research centers and industry professionals engaged in developing new training models based on digital technologies.
START4.0’s participation highlights the commitment of the Competence Center to promoting technological innovation, digital transformation and safety in industrial and infrastructure environments. START4.0 is an innovation ecosystem that supports Italian companies in their digital transition through research projects, technological services and specialized training programs.
START4.0’s Contribution to the INAIL Conference
During the event – PROGRAM AVAILABLE HERE – the following speakers from START4.0 will take part:
- Prof. Paola Girdinio, President of START4.0, who will deliver the institutional opening remarks
- Giacomo Benedetti, Project Manager at START4.0, who will participate in the discussion session focused on the use of immersive technologies in safety training.
During the panel discussion, START4.0 will present the perspective of a privileged observatory on innovation. Through the management of public funding and support programs for business digitalization, START4.0 closely monitors the evolution of innovation demand and the adoption of advanced technologies across industrial sectors.
Immersive Technologies and Safety Training
The experience highlighted by START4.0 at the INAIL conference on immersive technologies for workplace safety shows a significant increase in interest in XR (Extended Reality) technologies, including virtual, augmented and mixed reality.
START4.0 adopts a technology-agnostic and human-centric approach:
- technology is considered a tool that supports people and industrial processes
- no technology is promoted unless it responds to real market needs.
In recent years, START4.0 has observed growing adoption of VR, AR and MR across several areas:
- innovation services funded through State aid mechanisms and PNRR funds
- industrial research and experimental development projects co-funded by the Competence Center
- ongoing dialogue with companies, trade associations and social partners.
XR Experiences and Projects in Port Environments
During the conference, several projects developed by the Competence Center in strategic infrastructure environments—particularly ports—will also be presented.
Among the examples:
Safety Anywhere
An immersive simulation system designed to train operators and technicians in emergency management within real assets that have been digitally reconstructed in the metaverse.
Man Machine Interaction
A prototype developed to improve human–machine interaction in port terminals and enhance the safety of logistics operations.
These projects are the result of collaboration between START4.0, the Port Authority of Ravenna, port operators and technology partners within the Competence Center’s innovation ecosystem.
Innovation and Safety: New Opportunities for Businesses and Public Administration
START4.0’s participation in the conference organized by INAIL takes place within a broader context of regulatory and technological evolution that is redefining workplace safety training models.
With the entry into force of the new State–Regions Agreement on safety training, immersive technologies are expected to become increasingly effective tools for improving learning, simulating complex operational scenarios and reducing risks in the workplace.
Thanks to the expertise developed through research projects and collaboration with a network of high-level technology partners, START4.0 is now positioned as a key reference point for transforming these experimental initiatives into high-value services for companies and public administrations.
